We know – It’s not the formal way to build a best-in-class business, and many academics and purists will frown on this approach, but we can tell you as very experienced practitioners and pragmatists … it works.
You don’t need answers to build a best-in-class business; you need hard-hitting questions.
Let me explain…
Most professionals have a basic set of tools to use in their craft. Carpenters have hammers, dentists have picks, and physicians have stethoscopes. It’s hard to envision any of these people working in their chosen fields without their basic set of tools.
As solo entrepreneurs and small business owners and marketers, we also have a basic set of tools to build a best-in-class enterprise: questions. And nothing is as simple, or as complex, than asking the right questions.
Here’s why questions are so effective…
Questions invoke a deep response from the subconscious mind.
Let me give you an example. Take a moment to do this simple exercise.
Say to yourself out loud, “I don’t have enough time to get everything done.” Now, experience how you feel in response to that statement.
Now ask yourself out loud, “How can I give more time to my priorities?” And again, tune in to how you feel.
Compare your sense of energy and personal power and the potential for ideas from one situation to another.
When we ask ourselves quality questions we gain greater control of our lives. Ideas and solutions come more easily. We begin to think in bigger pictures. We unlock the potential and capabilities of those around us.
But beware… If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Don’t just expand your questioning toolkit, also actively explore options for good answers and then act upon them.
Actively make time to go through each of the questions we ask. Write down as many possibilities and options as you can come up with. Even if they seem extreme at first, get possibilities on paper and then play with them. Bounce them off your spouse, partners, staff, and your fellow Game Plan Geek students in the Facebook group. Get guidance and advice on them from wherever and whomever you can.
