Dump the Traditional Business Plan and Grow Your Business
Business plans take too long to write, are seldom updated, and almost never executed. But documenting your business plan is critical to your success.
Even more important, without knowing the purpose of your business we cannot create a digital marketing strategy, or devise tactics, to help you achieve your business purpose.
The solution I’ve found is a 1-page business plan used by thousands of entrepreneurs to disrupt markets. I’m personally using the online version which has a free option and training which simplifies the whole process. And it takes under 20 minutes to create a new business plan. Awesome!
1. The business plan software was originally created for start-ups. Don’t let this worry you, the methodology is even more effective when used for giving your existing business a fresh start. And for disrupting your niche if you want to.
2. If you get stuck, don’t stress. Use the Online Help and Online Chat or give Di-Di a call.
3. You can’t break anything in the online work areas and nothing you do is cast in cement. So, Relax and Have Fun!
4. It’s best – but not essential – to complete your first plan in one sitting. Since this is your first time creating a 1-page model set aside about one hour. This will allow you more than enough time to watch the training video, complete all the activities, and take a few breaks.
Step 1: Create a Free Online Account
With the online version you are going to create a 1-page business plan that will let you focus on growing your business – faster.

Step 2: Create your 1st 1-Page Business Model
Watch this video for step-by-step instructions to complete your first canvas.
Use [Your Business Name] as the Product Name and your primary customer segment as the Canvas Name.
You can always change this later.
Sketching your first Canvas is about creating that initial `non-perfect’ snapshot of your business model as it exists in your head.
Step 3: Invite Collaborators to your Busines Model Team
It is imperative that you share your model with at least one other person. You need outside perspective, otherwise you are just washing your thinking in the same dishwater.
Click on Collaborators and send an invitation to email@example.com
Tip: Before you invite someone who is unfamiliar with this model, let’s first iron out the obvious issues in your plan. Then you can invite them over in person and use the Slideshow option to run them through your model.
Step 4: Rinse and Repeat with another Customer Segment
This is yet another powerful features of the online software – the ability to quickly create an unlimited number of business model canvasses.
Pick another customer segment and create a new Canvas for that segment. Cloning the first canvas saves time when most of the information will be the same for all your segments.
Step 5: (Optional) Study the “Running Lean” Book
Become a leader in your niche. Adopt the Lean Start Up approach to drive new initiatives to build your business and to disrupt your niche. Study this inspiring book by Ash Maurya. You’ll find it on Amazon.
